THE RECORD of­fice for Le­ices­ter­shire was ac­cred­ited for its top notch archives.

The Record Of­fice for Le­ices­ter­shire, Le­ices­ter and Rut­land was given the Ar­chive Ser­vice Ac­cred­i­ta­tion by The Na­tional Archives, recog­nis­ing its ex­cel­lence in all ar­eas of ar­chive ser­vice de­liv­ery.

The Wigston Magna of­fice turns 70 this year, and the ac­cred­i­ta­tion will help en­sure the long-term col­lec­tion, preser­va­tion and ac­ces­si­bil­ity of its ar­chive her­itage.

Richard Blunt, cab­i­net mem­ber for her­itage, said: “It is tes­ta­ment to the teams of staff and vol­un­teers who go out of their way to en­sure records re­lat­ing to Le­ices­ter­shire, Le­ices­ter and Rut­land’s her­itage are well main­tained.

“Hope­fully this will help to raise the pro­file of the ser­vice that we of­fer.”

Unique items at the of­fice in­clude an ac­count of a 16th cen­tury lion at­tack in Lough­bor­ough.
