Record office land gong
THE RECORD office for Leicestershire was accredited for its top notch archives.
The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland was given the Archive Service Accreditation by The National Archives, recognising its excellence in all areas of archive service delivery.
The Wigston Magna office turns 70 this year, and the accreditation will help ensure the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of its archive heritage.
Richard Blunt, cabinet member for heritage, said: “It is testament to the teams of staff and volunteers who go out of their way to ensure records relating to Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland’s heritage are well maintained.
“Hopefully this will help to raise the profile of the service that we offer.”
Unique items at the office include an account of a 16th century lion attack in Loughborough.
