Hinckley Times - - NEWS -

A PAIR of martial arts students from a Hinckley club have beat the odds to attain Black Belt grading.

Luke Jones from Hinckley and Samantha Gutteridge from Broughton Astley have mastered the art of Tae Kwon Do, overcoming major challenges to prove their excellence.

They both train at Hinckley Tae Kwon Do Club, which is held at Dorothy Goodman School Middlefield in Lane, on Tuesday evenings.

Sarah Ginger, instructor at the club, said: “I’m very proud of them.

“Both of them have managed to overcome various health issues to achieve this.”

Luke, 10, broke his femur vertically in 2015, and was advised he would never practise Tae Kwon Do again, but after numerous operations he was able to overcome the injury.

He also has a big pas- sion for cycling and competes regularly in races.

Samantha started Tae Kwon Do more than 30 years ago, but as she kept stopping and starting she never reached her Black Belt.

She has also struggled to keep her weight down, but managed to lose over five stone since joining Slimming World, which drove her on to reach her goal of attaining her Black Belt.

The pair went to Bristol to take the final test.
