Gold rush for two mar­tial artists

GOLD medals were in store for two mar­tial arts stu­dents from a Burbage club at an in­ter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tion.

Jim Parker and Jackie Mer­ricks showed their skills at a World Kuk Sool As­so­ci­a­tion tour­na­ment, at the Green­bank Sports Sta­dium in Liver­pool.

Jim was awarded Gold in Forms and Cop­per in Staff Spin­ning (weapons), while Jackie won Gold in Spar­ring, Sil­ver in Forms, and Cop­per in Staff Spin­ning (weapons).

They took on clubs from across the UK, as well as Amer­i­can and Euro­pean schools, in cat­e­gories in­clud­ing tra­di­tional forms, de­fen­sive tech­niques, weapons and spar­ring.

The pair prac­tise at Kuk Sool Won of Hinck­ley and Burbage, which meets at Hast­ings High School in St Cather­ine’s Close in Hinck­ley.

In­struc­tor Ian said: “We had a great week­end rep­re­sent­ing Hinck­ley and Burbage and our school.

“I am so very proud of all my stu­dents, they are fan­tas­tic mar­tial artists and a great team.”
