Gold rush for two martial artists
GOLD medals were in store for two martial arts students from a Burbage club at an international competition.
Jim Parker and Jackie Merricks showed their skills at a World Kuk Sool Association tournament, at the Greenbank Sports Stadium in Liverpool.
Jim was awarded Gold in Forms and Copper in Staff Spinning (weapons), while Jackie won Gold in Sparring, Silver in Forms, and Copper in Staff Spinning (weapons).
They took on clubs from across the UK, as well as American and European schools, in categories including traditional forms, defensive techniques, weapons and sparring.
The pair practise at Kuk Sool Won of Hinckley and Burbage, which meets at Hastings High School in St Catherine’s Close in Hinckley.
Instructor Ian said: “We had a great weekend representing Hinckley and Burbage and our school.
“I am so very proud of all my students, they are fantastic martial artists and a great team.”
