Parrot stops play...

Hinckley Times - - FRONT PAGE -

A PARROT on the run brought play to a halt during a cricket game after it started attacking the players. In the last match of the season, Hinckley Amateur Thirds were taking on Hathern Old Seconds at Swallows Green in Hinckley. Phil York takes up the story. He said: “A parrot started to bomb the players - not a normal occurrence in rural Leicestershire. After about 15 minutes its owners appeared and tried to coax it back to them, but it seemed to take more of a fancy to the players in white.

“Finally, veteran spinner Tom Flannery who bears a remarkable resemblance to Long John Silver (apart from the wooden leg) managed to entice Polly long enough to get a photo and return it to its grateful owners.”
