Cat and Bar­le­stone fight out a tense draw in Di­vi­sion One

CAT H and Bar­le­stone B fought out a very close match in Div 1 of the Hinck­ley Ta­ble Ten­nis League.

Cat H went into a 3 sets to 2 lead only for Bar­le­stone B to come back with vi­tal wins by Nor­man Weaver (BB) over Ian Knight(Cat H) and Bob Dale (BB) over Ben Rhodes (Cat H) to go one set up at 4 sets to 3. Weaver then tak­ing the eighth set for a 5 sets to 3 lead. Cat H fought back with Knight (CAT H) over­com­ing Dave Scragg (BB) in the ninth and also claim­ing the dou­bles to earn the draw at 5 sets apiece. In their next match Cat H found Bar­le­stone A far too strong los­ing by 10 sets to nil.

Bar­le­stone A con­tinue to set the pace tak­ing a fur­ther win over Queen’s Mira by 8 sets to 2. Jon Ja­com starred with a max­i­mum for Bar­le­stone.

G Ward D with new sign­ing Chris Brewer in­cluded took a fine draw against Cat B, Brewer win­ning all three of his matches whilst Ed­ward Brown col­lected one win with Brewer and Brown also tak­ing the dou­bles to earn the draw. In their next fix­ture GWD lost by 8 sets to 2 to last sea­son’s cham­pi­ons Goons with Ja­son Wood­field (Goons) win­ning all three of his games, whilst Cal­lum Dale and Ed­ward Brown took one set each for GWD. Goons came un­stuck against G Ward B los­ing by 8 sets to 2. Mick All­sopp (GWD) tak­ing three sets for G Ward.

Cat B lost by 4sets to 6 to Queen’s Mira. Queens were al­ways in con­trol de­spite the close­ness of the fi­nal score. Man of the match was Ian Heavey (QM) who won all three sets.

Ti­tle con­tenders Cat A and GWA went head to head in a close match. The Bar­well side raced to a 3 sets to 1 lead be­fore Pete Jamieson (Cat A) and Nick Raynor (GWA) fought out the best set of the match. It went all the way to five games with Jamieson win­ning 11-8 in the fifth.

Cat then went 5 sets to 4 up be­fore GWA through Andy Spring and Raynor col­lected the dou­bles for the draw.
