In a show of sol­i­dar­ity with Protes­tant Dutch rebels in the Span­ish Nether­lands, Robert Dud­ley, Earl of Le­ices­ter com­mands an of­fi­cial ex­pe­di­tion to fight in the Low Coun­tries. English mil­i­tary suc­cesses are few, but their pres­ence saves the United Prov­inces from a Span­ish re­con­quest.
