With a mas­sive ar­tillery bom­bard­ment sup­port­ing their as­sault, on 21 Fe­bru­ary a bat­tal­ion of North Viet­namese troops at­tacks the eastern end of the com­bat base where the South Viet­namese Rangers are sta­tioned. The Com­mu­nists, us­ing their trenches to cover their move­ments, con­duct fre­quent prob­ing at­tacks from the east for the next three weeks.
