The most fa­mous fe­male sniper was a Rus­sian – Lyud­mila Pavlichenko. She had 309 con­firmed kills, in­clud­ing 36 en­emy snipers. She was one of the 500 fe­male snipers that sur­vived the war. The stan­dard Soviet in­fantry ri­fle was the ro­bust Mosin-na­gant, first in­tro­duced in 1891. The bolt-ac­tion ri­fle was also em­ployed by Rus­sian snipers. Some 37 mil­lion were pro­duced and em­ployed in global con­flicts, con­tin­u­ing into the present.
