A rust­ing tank car­ries the mes­sage, “I love you” in a junk­yard of Soviet ar­moured ve­hi­cles and tanks at the Kabul Mil­i­tary Training Camp. The USSR be­gan its in­va­sion of Afghanistan in 1979 and in­stalled more than 10,000 troops to sup­port its pup­pet prime min­is­ter but failed to ex­tend power much be­yond Kabul. It ended in the with­drawal of the Sovi­ets a decade later.
