King John of Eng­land loses Nor­mandy to the French af­ter be­ing de­feated on cam­paign by Philip II of France. Only the Chan­nel Is­lands re­main from John’s ter­ri­to­ries in the duchy. As a re­sult, the Nor­man aris­toc­racy in Eng­land grad­u­ally be­comes fully as­sim­i­lated into English so­ci­ety.

The Siege of Château Gail­lard ends An­glo-nor­man rule in Nor­mandy and turns the once all-con­quer­ing duchy over to the French crown
