1667 PAR­ADISE LOST IS PUB­LISHED

John Mil­ton, an age­ing and blind ex-civil ser­vant, spent five years com­plet­ing his mas­ter­piece, Par­adise Lost, with the help of friends and scribes. Mil­ton then sold the pub­lish­ing rights for a mere £5. How­ever, the poem be­came one of the most pop­u­lar of the day, mak­ing the pub­lish­ers a pretty penny.
