TOO MUCH, TOO YOUNG 1032 BENE­DICT IX IS INAUGURATED

Usu­ally, one stint in the Vat­i­can is enough, but the no­to­ri­ous Bene­dict IX was pope three times. Known for his profli­gacy, he was given the pa­pacy per­haps as young as 12. The lo­cals tired of him, and drove him out in 1045. He then sold his po­si­tion to his god­fa­ther. How­ever, he would be the leader of the Catholic Church twice more.
