The In­dian-in­spired pav­il­ion was orig­i­nally a sim­ple farm house that Ge­orge, Prince of Wales, rented in 1786 as a dis­creet lo­ca­tion to meet with his mis­tress, Maria Fitzher­bert. He com­mis­sioned its rede­vel­op­ment the fol­low­ing year, with the domes and minarets added in 1815.
