Location: surrey size: 270m2 build cost: undisclosed Although the owners of this
new home had experience from previous extension and renovation projects, they felt out of their depth with the prospect of carrying out a self-build and decided to turn to D&M Homes (dm-homes.co.uk), which could provide them with a prefabricated home — giving them peace of mind and a hands-off approach, while still creating a bespoke home suited to their needs.
The couple were after a contemporary design with a light, airy and open plan interior. Building on a garden plot, the design also had to factor in potential overlooking as well as making best use of the site.
The narrow, steep access meant that a fire engine wouldn’t be able to reach the property, so an automatic sprinkler system was specified to meet Building Regs. Further expense was incurred by the amount of earth that had to be moved to facilitate the build.
The house has been clad in a crisp white render, while timber helps to break up the front elevation. Dark grey window frames provide contrast, while bifold doors to the rear open up the kitchen diner to a patio area — perfect for entertaining in the warmer months. Thrilled with the results, the homeowners feel that the scheme far exceeds their initial expectations of their garden site’s potential.
