FIVE FACTS ABOUT CLIVE
Before he found his way into the world of antique books, Clive had a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, but a gap-year job at an antiquarian bookshop, in 1969, led him down another path.
Clive became the Antiques Roadshow’s rst- ever books, prints and manuscripts specialist in 1985.
Because of the Roadshow, Clive has had to become an expert in comics – including everything from vintage Rupert to modern Batman.
Outside books, Clive collects brown furniture: ‘It’s lovely, terribly unfashionable, but beautiful’.
The prize of Clive’s manuscript collection is a letter by Charles I. Bearing the king’s signature, the letter pertains to a key moment before the outbreak of civil war (1642), during which Charles lost his head.
