UNDER THE SEA
The oldest champagne around today was discovered in a shipwreck o the coast of Finland’s Åland Archipelago in 2010. Divers found 145 bottles of champagne from the 1840s by Veuve Clicquot and Heidsieck & Co. Wine auctioneers Acker Merrall & Condit sold several bottles in 2011, including a bottle of 1841 Veuve Clicquot, which went for €30,000, a world record. There are theories that the vintage may have been sampled by Madame Clicquot herself, the widow founder of the champagne house.
