I was so pleased to see the article about antique frames in your recent Art Issue. I have recently started collecting vintage and antique frames to enhance my own artwork. I !nd them at car boot sales, charity shops and online.

I am having an exhibition next April and I hope to have at least 40 antique frames by then. I love the imperfections, the so" gold colour, the wood and plaster frames – plain, elaborate, moulded, Edwardian, Victorian, even Georgian – all frames with a past. They transform a humble drawing or painting into something more – an art object in its own right. Ann Kelley, via email

LEFT Vintage and antique frames are works of art in themselves, as Ann has discovered.BELOW In our Art Issue, we featured the home of artist Helen Ward, who creates striking insect artwork by cutting their silhouettes out of old books and letters.
