Sir — We really enjoy our eventing and when my son has been lucky enough to win a prize, we attend the prize-giving and thank the sponsors. Rosettes are then proudly pinned above the Aga in the kitchen for the year.

So why, when sponsors are so thin on the ground, do some prizewinners not bother to turn up or leave immediately when given their prize? It is so embarrassing for the organisers and the sponsors.

But there was a lovely moment last year at Dauntsey Park — Beanie Sturgis ordered prizewinners who’d collected theirs and started to walk off to return to clap the rest. So come on prizewinners — be polite and attend the prize-givings. Carol Rowcliffe Tiverton, Devon
