FROM SICKBED TO PODIUM

WHEN grand prix winner Philipp Weishaupt was competing at Spruce Meadows in June, he ended up having to have an appendectomy.

Asked in the press conference after the grand prix how he was feeling, he replied: “I feel much lighter without my appendix!”

He admitted he had started riding too soon after the operation, saying with a cheeky smile that he had misunderstood the doctor and had thought he had said six days, instead of six weeks, out of the saddle, but that all was in good order now.
