LEICESTERSHIRE rider Joe has just set up on his own at girlfriend Tia Harris’ base after two-and-a-half years working for Mennell Watson. He netted another qualification for his emerging string when he piloted Kwantos Van Het Meierhof (pictured, right) to a quick double clear in the Blue Chip Dynamic B&C.

The seven-year-old has only been with Joe for six weeks and has already picked up a Karma ticket at Solihull.

“He is brave, so likes to run on a bit,” said Joe, 22. “He’s quite small — 16hh — but he has a lot of jump. He’ll probably be aimed at Foxhunter second rounds next year.

“Working for Mennell was really good for me and I learned a lot,” Joe added. “I decided to make the break and we have 15 horses in at the moment. We’re doing a bit of everything, producing and selling, both horses and ponies.”
