Use a metal tape and measure twice, or three times, before ordering shelves or furniture to fit an exact gap

Before assembling flatpack furniture, check that all the pieces are present, right down to the smallest screws

Allow plenty of time for construction. Read through the instructions a few times to familiarise yourself with them, and check that you have all the relevant tools
