The Spix’s macaw is one of eight species hav­ing its sta­tus changed to Ex­tinct In The Wild af­ter a study by Birdlife In­ter­na­tional. The eight-year project showed that, for the first time, main­land ex­tinc­tion is sur­pass­ing is­land bird ex­tinc­tions.
