Changes as Field take on the leaders

Huddersfield Daily Examiner - - FRONT PAGE -

and, despite the changes, it is still a strong team we are putting out.”

Field should be encouraged, too, by the fact Stourbridge defeated Luctonians by only five points when they played a month ago, winning 30-25 on home soil.

The West Midlands club boast some fine facilities at Stourton Park – where they played top-flight national rugby for 11 seasons and finished third in 2008 – and they have a capacity of 3,500.

They are now in their sixth season back in National II (Level 4), but have made a perfect start and picked up six bonus points.

For Field, Battye is not the only player nursing a shoulder injury, as Ben Hoyle and Adam Blades are still sidelined with similar problems.

There was more encouraging news for Field, however, in that centre Mark Pease returned to training this week after ankle surgery in preseason.

Huddersfield: Lewis Workman, Brandon Conway, Will Milner, Tom Owen, Elliot Knight, Jonny West, Joel Hinchliffe, Adam Tamanis, Frances Entressengle (captain), Reuben Pollard, Adam Malthouse, Nick Sharpe, Ben Morrill, Lewis Bradley, Richard Piper. Replacements: Callum Thompson, Declan Thompson, Joey Carly, Danny Grainger, Sam Nunn. HUDDERSFIELD have conceded the Yorkshire Cup tie against Driffield due to be played at Lockwood Park tomorrow.

That’s because, with the first XV away to Stourbridge in National II North and a lengthy injury list, Field could not raise a second XV to fulfil the fixture.

While Austen Thompson is unavailable this weekend, Field are also without their three dual registration players from Yorkshire Carnegie – Harry Davey, Ollie Fox and Rian Hamilton.

Davey was named National II North player of the week for his display at fly half in the 32-15 home victory over Luctonians last week.

Skipper Alex Battye and fellow forwards Ben Hoyle and Adam Blades are all sidelined by shoulder injuries and experienced centre Mark Pease is just returning to training after ankle surgery.

In addition, Field have lost one of their home-grown talents in Luke Booth, who has set off to Australia for a year.

Booth – who has come through the ranks at Lockwood Park, playing for the Academy and the three senior sides – has also played internationally at Aussie Rules.

Meanwhile, front row forward Reuben Pollard has been named Huddersfield’s player of the month for September.

Darren Neilly took the award in the Falcons (second XV) and Iain Shelton in the A team.

Alex Lee was Academy player of the month. ■■Huddersfield YMCA have no fixture in North I East this weekend, but the second XV are at home to Wath Upon Dearne, kicking off at Laund Hill at 3pm.
