Kerry has warned oth­ers to re­main vig­i­lant against such at­tacks.

She said: “I think peo­ple that can do some­thing so hor­ren­dous to an in­no­cent an­i­mal are cow­ards and scum.

“I also think that pel­let guns and air ri­fles should be banned.”

Kerry said she was plan­ning on in­form­ing the po­lice about the in­ci­dent.

Af­ter Kerry posted pho­to­graphs of Bruno’s in­jury on so­cial me­dia, an­other cat owner liv­ing in New­some com­mented: “Mine got shot in the woods at New­some 18 months ago. She nearly died.”
