Forecaster­s have said there will be a chance of snow falling in most places with the greatest risk of a covering on the hills in north west England and north Wales.

The bitter snap continues until the end of the week at least with little change forecast.

It will stay unsettled with more showers or persistent downpours, some giving snow.

Periods of wet weather will be punctuated by brighter intervals.

But it will be windy with the greatest risk of severe gales across the north and west.
