Roving snapper

Huddersfield Daily Examiner - - FRONT PAGE -

THIS week All Our Yesterdays goes back to the mid 1970s.

Phillip Walker, aged 79, from Golcar, decided to capture how the town looked so went roving around with his camera.

He captured some great shots of the Colne Valley and a few of Huddersfield town centre too.

Many are from Scapegoat Hill, Milnsbridge and Longwood and there will be quite a few Examiner readers who still miss the landmark C&J Hirst Mill in Longwood.

One picture shows Shorehead in 1963, and another is taken in 1975 – and the roads looked so amazingly quiet compared to today.

This picture shows the view up towards Scapegoat Hill, and was taken between October 1975 and spring 1976.

More of Phillip’s photos will be published in next week’s All Our Yesterdays.

Much of the Examiner’s photographic archive is now being stored at Heritage Quay, the archive service at the University of Huddersfield.

Heritage Quay is open to the public. To find out more, call 01484 473168, visit www.heritagequay.org or email archives@hud.ac.uk.
