“It is great that the club are now recog­nised as one of the top clubs by the Bri­tish In­sti­tute of Karate Or­gan­i­sa­tion,” en­thused Han­son.

“We have en­joyed both na­tional and in­ter­na­tional suc­cess over our 30 years.

“We have com­peted in Ire­land, Hol­land, Ger­many, France and just this week­end we had club mem­bers com­pet­ing in a tour­na­ment in Bel­gium.

“Since the club was founded we have had 42 stu­dents gain their black belt First Dan, 14 gain their Se­cond Dan, five take Third Dan, four move up to Fourth and one has achieved a Fifth Dan.”

The Kirk­bur­ton club have also be­come in­volved in coach­ing in schools and with spe­cial­ist groups – with wheel­chair karate be­ing one of their lat­est ven­tures.
