Free parking is the answer

CAROL Turner wrote about the closures in Huddersfield town centre with some good points.

If anyone wants to find a very good Oxfam book shop close to quaint cafes and local interest I recommend Holmfirth (right).

Even there the parking is not perfect and I wonder when the authorities are going to realise that the key to encouraging people to come to town centres is to make parking free.

The additional revenue generated by extra business which will keep the shops open and provide business rates, plus the savings provided by deleting the administration and manpower that goes into policing parking would surely make up the financial position.

Having to carry any decent amount of shopping home by tortuous bus options will surely encourage shoppers to go where they can park.
