Community bid to help the lonely
has been running a project to help elderly people which is funded by the People’s Health Trust Active Community funding programme.
A group of people who would otherwise not get out and meet others meet every Monday (11am1pm) at the association’s community centre in Hall Avenue, Thornton Lodge.
The association have run a series of coach trips to seaside resorts including Llandudno in North Wales, Blackpool and Scarborough.
Association treasurer and former Kirklees councillor Jamil Akhtar said: “The purpose of the seaside trip is removing the problem of social isolation and to enable older people to enjoy life, maintaining health and social contact with other people.
“It is important to help them remain independent, lead satisfying and fulfilling lives, and also improve the quality of life.”
