A MUM and her nine-year-old son have finally been reunited after they were forced to spend 99 days apart during the coronavirus lockdown.

Becky Huteson, who works for KWL, a maintenance contractor for Hull City Council, made the difficult decision to be apart from her son, Jack Wiltshere while she continued working.

Jack has asthma and suffered a chest infection two weeks before the lockdown was imposed, which his family feared may leave him susceptible to Covid-19 so the decision that he would stay with his grandmother, Sue Smith, was made.

Sue was also shielding because of her own health difficulties, reports Scunthorpelive.

The family, who live in Barton-uponhumber, have now been reunited after Jack’s dad became able to work from home and look after him during the day.

A heart-warming and emotional video shows Jack running to his mum and brother Connor, who was able to stay at home and attend school.

The family can be seen embracing in a hug in the middle of the street.

Becky said: “It was horrible to not be able to be with him for so long.

“We were only able to see each other through the window - it was hard not to cuddle him.

“It was so emotional when he was able to come back home, 99 days felt like such a long time and it’s been great to have him home again.

“Now that we’re all back together, we’re looking forward to getting back to normal and we’re going to make up for lost time with loads of family days out.”

Sue added: “We decided that due to Jack’s asthma and his chest infection, it was best he come and live with us for a few weeks.

“His brother continued going to school as Becky was a key worker, but we didn’t want to risk it for Jack.

“It was very hard for both of them, but Jack was very brave. It was so emotional when they were able to meet again, I almost started crying as well.

“We even celebrated his ninth birthday during lockdown.

“He couldn’t have a proper party but he was able to see people at a distance on the driveway, which helped to keep his spirits up.

“We tried to keep him busy with baking and cooking while he was here so that he didn’t miss home too much.

“My husband Steve took a break from work, partially unpaid, to look after us both.

“I’m already missing Jack now that he’s gone home, but I’m so happy he’s with his mum again.”
