SELECTED LIBRARIES OPEN BY APPOINTMEN­T

SOME of Hull’s libraries reopened their doors yesterday.

They had all been closed since the start of the coronaviru­s lockdown.

Over the past three months the city’s library service has been offering online access to some of its services and activities.

Now, a gradual reopening has begun with four branches welcoming back customers, although there is limited access to many of the usual facilities.

They include the central library in Albion Street, city centre.

Others to reopen were Fred Moore Library in Wold Road, west Hull, Bransholme Library in North Point shopping centre and Ings

Library, Savoy Road, east Hull.

Western Library in The Boulevard, west Hull, will reopen tomorrow from 2pm while the Greenwood Avenue branch in north Hull reopened on Wednesday.

Initially, they will all be operating on an appointmen­t-only basis.

Users will be able to pre-order and then collect titles by calling 01482 210000 or emailing lending.library@ hcandl.co.uk in advance.

Other services available on an appointmen­t-only basis will be applicatio­ns for parking permits, bus passes and rail cards.

Access to public computers in library buildings will not be available immediatel­y and study areas and meeting rooms will remain closed for the time being.

In addition, no newspapers or magazines browsing.

Safety measures being implemente­d at each library include a 72-hour quarantine for returned books before they are made available again for public use, regular cleaning of equipment and a requiremen­t for every customer to sanitise their hands before entering a building.

Everyone who visits a library will also be required to provide their contact details under the government’s track and trace system.

All of these details will be stored safely and destroyed after 21 days.

The following libraries will remain closed - Avenue Library, Chanterlan­ds Avenue, west Hull; East Park Library, The Pavilion, East Park; Freedom Centre Library, Preston will be available for

Road, east Hull; Gipsyville Library, North Road, west Hull; Longhill Library, St Margaret’s Church, Shannon Road, east Hull and Waudby Library, The Waudby Centre, Annandale Road, east Hull.

However, access to services will be limited because of necessary safety and social distancing measures.

Initially they will reopen on an appointmen­t-only basis, including a select and collect service. for people wanting to borrow books.
