How to make a ‘wildlife’ documentary starring your pets

One fun way to showcase your pet’s antics is to make them the star of a safari-style video. Animals can be hard to direct, though, so you may end up filming unwanted people in the background of a shot. Here, we’ll show you how to crop people out for a cleaner composition. You can motivate your pet to run past a camera by throwing a toy (or a golf ball in our example), and we’ll demonstrate how to trim the start of a clip to remove the toy and make your pursuing pet appear to run under its own steam. We’ll also show you how to use filters to quickly grade your clips to give them a warmer hue that evokes the African plains instead of a typical British garden. And no wildlife sequence would be complete without a title, so we’ll teach you how to create one using imovie’s Titles browser.
