Holiday period breaks all-time App Store records
Customers spent nearly $1 billion on App Store purchases in the week between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day 2017, smashing all-time records in the process. The record-breaking shopping spree, which totalled $890, culminated in an eye-watering $300 million cashed in on New Year’s Day 2018.
“We are thrilled with the reaction to the new App Store and to see so many customers discovering and enjoying new apps and games,” says Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
“In 2017 alone, IOS developers earned $26.5 billion — more than a 30 per cent increase over 2016.”
Pokemon GO was the festive period’s big mover, heading back to the top of the App Store charts after new AR features were added to the app.
