HOUSING ESTATE HEAVEN

- SIMON LARKINS, RETFORD

The feature in last month’s IYCF regarding Ladygrove Lakes made for fantastic reading and got me thinking. This a fishery that is located in the last place of a housing estate and it looks like the ideal place to get youngsters involved in the sport. Juniors are unlikely to come into contact with fishing a lot of the time because the lakes, rivers and canals are located in rural areas, well away from where they live. But fisheries like this are on the doorstep of where these kids live. They’ll come across people fishing, ask them the usual ‘have you caught anything mister’ and that’ll soon get them interested in fishing and wanting to take up the sport. We need more lakes like this on housing estates if we want to increase the amount of kids on the bank.
