IF YOU had to pick just one tactic to guarantee success throughout the year, smart anglers would opt for the bomb. An approach that has many different guises, it is equally capable of helping you avoid a blank in winter as it is putting together 100lb of carp and F1s when the temperatures soar. When the country is assaulted by an arctic blast it will produce bites when all else fails, but it isn’t the most riveting way of fishing. Fast-forward to now and the excitement levels of fishing the bomb are seriously ramped up, with the manner in which it is fished completely different. Jon Whincup is currently the most successful match angler in the land having won over £100,000 last year, a fair share of it using the bomb during spring. “It develops from an approach where you chuck and hope for the best in winter to one where you are constantly casting, feeding or playing a fish,” explained Jon. “At this time of year you combine the approach with pellets, keep the bait going in and the fish become so obsessed with competing for the feed that the bites are savage.” This month Jon reveals his top ten bomb and pellet fishing tips to help you replicate the stunning success enjoyed by the BaitTech and Frenzee-backed angler.
