PASTE ON THE POLE
When the water’s at its warmest, paste is unbeatable and it is synonymous with big fish and big weights. Paste fishing with big baits for big weights requires big rigs. Hook-wise, it is important to use a wide gape pattern in a big size, so it helps to grip the paste. A paste float is also advisable. These have very long bristles so you can easily ‘read’ bites.
The bait is fished 1in overdepth so any tow doesn’t drag the hook out of the soft ball of paste This is a big-fish tactic so the mainline is tied directly to the hook. As there is no hooklength there is no knot to create a weak point Use a long-bristled PB Paste 2 float. It is already loaded so requires no extra shot. The line attaches via the very top at the bristle
