Improve Your Coarse Fishing (UK)

Q The carp in my local commercial hug the far bank and I am convinced that dobbing is the best way to get bites. The problem is that bread is banned. What other baits can be used when dobbing? BEN HIGGINSON, EMAIL

ADobbing is the art of regularly lifting and dropping your pole rig when fishing close to cover in order to locate exactly where the shoals are sitting. Feed absolutely nothing and aim to literally place the hookbait directly in front of a fish. Bread is a great bait because it sinks so slowly and is highly visible, giving fish sat off the deck a chance to suck it in. But anything light will be equally effective because of its slow fall. Try squeezing all the pulp out of a grain of corn and hooking the skin to catch those cagey carp.
