What sort of swim should I pick on my local river when looking for bream?

AIt can be tempting to reach for the strongest terminal tackle on offer when double- figure carp are likely to show, but you can often get away with much lighter kit.

If you are fishing a swim with no snags, a 6lb mainline to a 5lb hooklength and a medium wire size 16 hook will do the job. Make sure this is combined with an elastic that has plenty of cushioning to prevent breakages such as Preston Innovations 13H or 15H.
