Rather than buy­ing salted, roasted nuts, roast your own in de­li­cious spices – with­out the added salt.

Veg­etable crisps are sur­pris­ingly sim­ple to make. Slice veg­gies thinly, then bake in the oven. Use chilli and green herbs to avour.

If you’re pre­par­ing your own treats like mince pies, cakes and pud­dings, try halv­ing the sugar you add. Nor­mally you can’t even tell! You can try dou­bling the fruit con­tent, too – this gives sweet­ness with added bre, vi­ta­mins and min­er­als.
