Isle of Calm
A trip to the park has taken on a whole new meaning in Copenhagen with the launch of an innovative concept. Enter the ‘Parkipelago’: a series of small oating islands in Copenhagen harbour that encourage people to hop on, drift off and experience the city differently.
The rst island is already out there and there are more on the way, including a swimming platform, a garden, a café and even a mussel farm. The islands will be scattered throughout the harbour, accessible by boat, but they will also be brought together to create a new and moveable venue for festivals and events.
The Parkipelago represents a new type of public area, with creators hoping to tackle issues of reduced space for recreational areas in a busy metropolis, and to raise awareness about rising sea levels and environmental issues. The
rst island will be bobbing for the next year and is free to anyone to use for BBQs, camping or swimming – search #copenhagenislands on Instagram to see where you can hop on.
