“My mum and dad are so proud!”
While it’s Lucy’s first time in the awards spotlight, Emmerdale star Danny is celebrating an Inside Soap hat-trick – having scooped the Best Actor gong with us twice in the past…
You’re no stranger to this Award, Danny! How does it feel?
I’m completely and utterly overwhelmed! Genuinely, I was just so shocked when I found out. I didn’t expect to be here again, so I’m amazed by it. It’s a lovely feeling, and to everyone who voted for me, it’s not gone unnoticed. I massively appreciate the support!
Why do you think Aaron is so popular?
He’s moralistic and he looks after his own, and he’s very good at making sure that everybody’s okay before he looks after himself – so I think people respect the fact that he’s just a lovely guy. I also reckon the mental health problems that he’s had over the past few years have been something people can relate to, and rightly so. We learn more and more in the media about mental health, and people are being more open about it.
Where will you keep your Award? Your trophy cabinet must be crowded!
Ha ha! No, my mum is good at looking after them for me. I have a couple of them at home, but my mum is really proud, and they mean a lot to her. She’s quite shy and closed about what I do, though, whereas my dad is the complete opposite! So when I give this Award to my mum it’s my way of saying, “Thanks a lot for giving birth to me!”. Ha ha!
Can you give us any hints about what’s coming up for Aaron?
There’s the Christmas episode which is very unusual, but also really good. Aaron will be a part of that, but it’s very much a ‘Robert coming to terms with life’ episode, rather than a ‘Robron’ episode. I’m excited about it!
