Welcome to the latest issue of iPad & iPhone user. The rumours were true: Apple’s next-generation iPhones, the 7 and 7 Plus, traded the headphone jack for Lightning EarPods. Now there’s one port instead of two. Unsurprisingly this has divided opinion, though some believe it gives us an indication of the direction the company is moving in (page 112). We take a first look at the iPhone 7 on page 21.

To cater for the lack of a headphone port, Apple used the event to unveil its first wireless earphones. At £159 the AirPods aren’t cheap, but as our reviewer says on page 31, “they rocked our world”.

Apple also unveiled the latest addition to its smartwatch line-up: the Apple Watch Series 2 (see page 27). Although it doesn’t look drastically different to the original Watch, it’s now waterproof, so you can wear it swimming. Apple has also partnered with Nike to produce the Apple Watch Nike+, which can be used as an activity tracker.

The big surprise of the night was the announcement that Nintendo is bringing Super Mario to iOS. No release date has been set, but we can’t wait to start playing.
