5 ALIVE!

'PROJECT DROP TOP' MAY BE DEAD AND BURIED, BUT THE URGE FOR A LIGHTWEIGHT TRACK ORIENTATED MX-5 WAS STILL STRONG. ENTER PROJECT 5, THE LATEST MIGHTY MAZDA TO BE RESURRECTED FROM THE ASHES

Cast your mind back a few years to the other side of the London Olympics and the cider filled summers of the 2014

World Cup, and you may just remember my previous MX-5 based project, the aptly name 'Project Drop Top' or 'The Bogey' as it became affectionately known after it was covered in a lurid Kawasaki green wrap. Its shocking green vinyl overcoat and throaty soundtrack laid down by a set of Jenvey individual throttle bodies meant it definitely wasn't shy of attention. Sadly though, as with an increasing amount of late ’80s and early ’90s versions of the MX-5, the dreaded tin worm had taken hold of the inner sills and the following post mortem revealed that the damage was fatal (or at least far too expensive for my threadbare pockets at the time). In between that time and now, I've been cavorting with my dream car, an awesome 400bhp MKIV Toyota Supra Twin Turbo and a wife that spent far too much time spending my hard earned on cheap shoes and Primark pyjama bottoms. The resultant fallout from these two love affairs left me penniless from the Supra, and annoyed at the fact that Spongebob Squarepants had seemingly taken over all of the spare storage space in our home. Thankfully both of them have now left my life, but to be honest, I'm really going to miss that Supra, the wife...not so much!

Fast forward to the present day and it's clear that the MX-5 addiction has had more of an effect on my automotive passions than I first thought, and the fact that you can pick up a pretty tidy example of the

PROJECT 5 WAS DUE FOR THE SCRAPYARD, HOWEVER IT RECEIVED A LAST MINUTE PARDON AND IS NOW BEING RESURRECTED BACK TO A TOP TRACK CAR

INTERIOR AFTER SELLING MY FLOCKED PARTS, THE INTERIOR WAS LOOKING PRETTY SORRY FOR ITSELF, SO IT WAS DECIDED THAT, JUST AS IN 'THE BOGEY', THE DASH WOULD NOW BE CENTRED AROUND THE MAIN DASH BAR (THAT SITS BEHIND THE DASH). THE DASH ITSELF WAS REMOVED...
