Royal tribute is icing on cake for high-flying school
School featured in Queen birthday book
Children at St Michael’s Church of England Infant School are riding the crest of a wave.
Not only has their school in Douglas Road, Maidstone, been classed as outstanding by both Ofsted (three times in succession) and by the National Society of Anglican and Methodist schools (twice), but now it has been included in a commemorative book to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Head teacher Lisa Dicker said: “We are extremely proud of the children, staff and families at our wonderful school.
“The family atmosphere, love and respect shared by all, allows our school to continue to be ‘outstanding’ year after year.
“But to be asked to write an article for a worldwide publication is a terrific reward for our repeated successes, and allows the school to represent Maidstone and Kent in a glorious manner.”
The album was unveiled at Windsor Castle. It celebrates Her Majesty’s dedication to the Commonwealth and international affairs, her involvement with the armed forces, and her love of horses.
Copies, which include a feature on St Michael’s, were given to the Queen’s guests, who included heads of state, ambassadors and leaders of industry.
St Michael’s is used to illustrate education in the Queen’s realm.
Mrs Dicker said: “It’s a great honour to be part of such an historic celebration.”
Richard Freed, a spokesman for the publishers, St James’s House, said: “As the official publisher for the Queen’s 90th birthday celebration, we were entrusted with telling the Queen’s story.
“We were delighted when St Michael’s Infant School agreed to help us mark this important milestone.”
Copies of the book, The Queen at 90, can be ordered online at www.hmq90books.com. It is priced at £25.
