Fresh from Glasto, 90s’ band Reef rock out at village festival
Britpop heroes Reef rocked out to almost a thousand people at an up-and-coming music festival in the quiet village of Yalding.
The band, who had a top 10 hit with now classic tune Place Your Hands, headlined two-day festival The Vicar’s Picnic on The Lees on Saturday, much to the delight of visitors and organisers.
They were in good company, playing alongside John Power from fellow 90s band Cast, and Kent groups such as Skinny Lister, Coco and the Butterfields, The Unknown and The Parkas.
Co-organiser Dave King said: “Reef were a big attraction and they were absolutely fantastic.
“When Place Your Hands came on, glitter cannons fired into the crowd. They had no airs or graces and were posing for photos with people.
“It’s a family festival and we had a kids’ field but we also had a secret disco where DJs played old dance classics for people who went raving in the 90s but have now grown up and had children.
“There were so many fantastic bands, the volunteers worked so hard to make it happen and we want it to just get bigger and bigger.”
A record 2,200 people visited the fourth annual festival, up from 400 the first time it was held in nearby Vicarage Road, where the name originated from.
The Vicar’s Picnic raised about £3,000 for children’s charity Demelza Hospice Care for Children, based in Bobbing, near Sittingbourne.
