Kafel lured the victim into his house, and the judge said: “You frightened her and terrorised her. You locked her in a cupboard. You punched her and beat her.
“You took advantage of your dominant position and beat her up in the most terrifying manner. This behaviour was of an extreme kind. It ended only when you casually, having raped her, looked at your computer.
“She took the opportunity to jump out of the window down to the ground, breaking her leg – as if the injuries she sustained at your hand were not enough.
“This poor woman is truly a victim. Her injuries, both psychological and physical, continue.”
Kafel, with no previous convictions, admitted three rape charges. His name will appear on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. The judge said mitigation was limited and amounted to good character and a degree of remorse, adding: “There is at least some insight now in your sober state as to how truly appalling your behaviour was.”
