Shoot-out drama

Maidstone are through to the first round of the FA Youth Cup after an extraordinary final qualifier against Tonbridge. Dave Smith (2), Josh Dorling, Jack Richards and Jon Burtonshaw scored for United in a 5-5 draw. There were no more goals in extra-time so it went to penalties, with Maidstone winning the shoot-out 6-5. They face Charlton in the first round at Welling’s Park View Road ground on Tuesday (7pm). Meanwhile, first-year academy scholar Elliot Capel has been on trial with Premier League champions Leicester this week.
