Concern over narrow lane

-

Concerns a new housing estate will see more cars using a narrow lane in Hollingbourne led to a public meeting.

The village’s parish councillors and borough councillor Patrick Garten (Con), plus members of the public and a representative from South East Water met in Windmill Lane to hear views on a proposal to build 12 homes there.

Concerns are about whether the privately owned, single track, which would be the access, could cope with more traffic.

Cllr Alan Bennett said: “It is surprisingly busy already. While we were there, we must have had to step back out of the way of vehicles at least a dozen times.”

Drawings submitted to Maidstone council suggesting the track was 4.65m wide were inaccurate, it was argued, with the narrowest spot measured at 3m.

The developer had said the lane leads to the village hall and Windmill pub car park and it a landscaped buffer zone is included. See tinyurl.com/hollapp.
