A story-time session with a television favourite added a touch of sparkle to reading time for youngsters at a Maidstone primary school.

Willow class at West Borough primary scooped the top prize in a Buster’s Book Club challenge day.

More than 60,000 children at 250 primary schools competed in green-travel and reading challenges.

Youngsters in Willow claimed the reward for biggest improvement with their reading and won a story-time surprise with Cheryl Baker.

She read to the whole school in a special assembly.

Cheryl, who lives in Kent, said: “I’ve had a wonderful time at West Borough Primary School, and I really encourage all children to read. If you read really well, maybe I’ll come and visit your school.”
