If the land was bought for development it would become the second site along the A249 to be earmarked for housing.

Last year Quinn Estates announced its intention to build 1,150 homes, 650,000 sq ft of commercial space, a hotel, a local centre and a primary school at Binbury Park next to the Kent Showground.

The site is on the opposite side of the often congested route, leading to concerns about worsening traffic.

Quinn is putting together an environmental impact assessment report after Maidstone Borough Council concluded development – which would include creating the county’s largest country park – could have a severe impact on the surrounding area of outstanding natural beauty.
